Singapore Airlines to boost Heathrow A380 flights

Singapore Airlines is gearing up to increase the number of Airbus A380 flights it operates from London Heathrow.

On September 20, the national carrier will boost the frequency of its double daily service between the UK hub and Singapore from four to seven days a week.

The increase comes as SIA prepares to take delivery of its sixth A380, which the airline has configured with 471 seats.

As the world’s largest passenger plane, the A380 has a maximum capacity of 853 people. However, the SIA interior incorporates 12 luxury first class suites as well as 62 business class seats.

The carrier’s SQ318 and SQ321 Heathrow service are presently operated four times weekly, with the additional A380 flights slated to take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Also this week, SIA confirmed that it is trimming fuel surcharges on some international flights in response to the falling cost of crude oil - down to just $103 per barrel from a summer high of $147.

The price reduction will initially apply to services from the city-state to neighbouring Asian and Australasian countries, though it may be extended to other routes shortly.
